Many of us are opposed to the slaughter of endangered animals – like rhinos – for their body parts.
But did you know there is an entire group of people who are hunted and murdered for the same reason?
In Tanzania, East Africa, people with white skin (known as albinos) are hunted like animals for their body parts which are widely believed to have magical and superstitious properties.
Local witch doctors promote the belief that when albino hair or limbs are consumed as part of a potion – wealth, success and power will follow.
As a result, between 2000 and 2017 there were 75 ‘registered’ killings of albinos, a further 61 survived attacks and there were 16 albino grave robberies.
As unimaginable as this may sound to many, especially when we take time to learn about the deep rooted causes listening to my friend Ludovick Peters on the field, but more unimaginable for those white children when they will be grown up to eventually learn one day that elsewhere this time black people are/were also killed because of other reasons will be a sad surprise.

The COVID-19 pandemic surely hit the entire world with unprecedented force. Is it an urgent wake-up call to adapt our society and our worklife to a truly sustainable future? Has mass-thinking of mass-media reached its limits and we need more independent thought processes?
From Mississippi Burning to Malcolm X, from Hebdo Charlie attacks to femicides around the globe, if anger and violence on one side and stock market growth on the other are still top in our agendas, it means our instantaneous outcry and protests with trend topic tweets as well as tears on funerals are impactless.
We cannot be enough good parents by raising our children with our love and provide their education.
# book Many Many Beginnings aims its readers to internalize what is going on on our planet, to not forget what happened but to forgive to make new friends, to learn the true meaning of solidarity and cooperation. Only this way, our children can access many many beginnings and grow for a generous life.
As many citizens around the world raise interest by protesting systemic racism, gender inequality and police brutality following the tragic deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and others, or mass-incidents from Belarus to Azerbeijan to Hong Kong some are also seeking ways to educate themselves.
